The Blues Brothers Impersonator Show: A Show to Beat
What is a Blues Brothers Impersonators Show? Well to get in the what it is, lets first find out who the Blues Brothers are.
The Blues Brothers are an American blues and soul band founded in 1978 by comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as part of a musical stint on Saturday Night Live. John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, respectively in character as lead vocalist “Joliet” Jake Blues, played by Belushi and harpist/vocalist Elwood Blues played by Aykroyd, fronted the band, which was composed of well-known and respected musicians. The band made its first appearance as the musical guest on the, 1978, episode of Saturday Night Live. Belushi and Aykyroyd were dressed in the bee costumes they usually wore for the ‘Killer Bees’ sketch, performing Slim Harpo’s ‘I’m a King Bee.’ Weeks after following that performance, The Blues Brothers became a popular addition to the show and became part of the show on a semi-regular basis. Part of the humor is the image of two men who are dressed in black suits looking like mob hit men suddenly blowing up into energetic song and dance.
It was at the bar that Aykroyd introduced Belushi to the blues. From then on, they were so much interested in the blues style of music and it turned into a huge fascination and it wasn’t long before the two began singing with local blues bands. As a joke, SNL band leader Howard Shore suggested they call themselves “The Blues Brothers.” In an April 1988 interview in the Chicago Sun-Times, Aykroyd said the Blues Brothers act borrowed from Sam & Dave. Obviously the duo thing and the dancing were borrowed but the hats came from John Lee Hooker. The suits came from the concept that when you were a jazz player in the 40′s, 50′s 60′s, to look straight, you had to wear a suit and that made their trademark from then on. Fans and followers of these two magnificent artists had been dying to see them perform thus came into the limelight, an experience that could leave you in awe, the Blue Brothers Show.
